There are some really fun and interesting Flash powered maths games on this US site. Unfortunately, a lot of advertising make it unsuitable for independent use. The site is probably best used for whole class or supervised group work.
Super Maths World April 23, 2008

This is a really fun site which features a large selection of maths questions presented in a “video game” style. Many of the activities could be used with older Key Stage 2 students but teachers would have to direct them to the appropriate areas of the site (as some of the topics aren’t on the primary syllabus).

Questionaut is a new game (on the BBC website) that helps KS2 pupils revise areas of English, Maths and Science. Click the link above for a magical journey where students need to click and explore each wonderfully illustrated level to trigger each set of questions.

This site, by teacher Spencer Riley, contains a great collection of interactive whiteboard teaching tools. These super activities are perfect for whole class teaching. There’s currently material on symmetry, probability, graphs, fractions and several other maths topics.
Spencer hopes to regularly add to the collection of resources on the site so go and visit it now and let him know that his hard work is appreciated.

If you’re looking for printable nets of polyhedra then check out this website. It’s got all the standard 3D shapes like cubes, prisms and pyramids as well as more complicated constructions like rhombicosidodecahedrons and octahemioctahedrons.
Interactivate Activities November 16, 2007

There are some great Java powered activities on this free US-based website. Although they cover mathematics topics for all ages of student, there are quite a lot of games that would be suitable for use in primary settings. Some examples include the shape builder (where you can explore the area and perimeter of shapes), the tessellating tile maker and the simple coordinates game.
There are really a lot of useful activities here and if you go to the main Interactivate page you can also access some planning, teaching tools and other useful resources.
Cleave Teacher Resources October 1, 2007

This is a group of resources that I’ve linked to on Primary Resources for a long time. I thought I’d flag up the site here in case people haven’t fully explored all the super material that’s available. The site includes a large collection of really useful grid sheets, number searches, maths games and a lot of great shape and space resources. Some of the sheets are designed for secondary level work but a large proportion of the files can be adapted for use with primary students.
Footee September 11, 2007

I was delighted to read, on Merlin John’s news blog, that the excellent Footee website is making a return. Saved from oblivion, thanks to site creator Phil Clegg, it’s now found a home as part of the Football Association’s website. In Footee, students complete educational games in order to earn the “currency” needed to fund their own fantasy football team. I used the site a lot with students back when it was first online. It’s a great method of reinforcing a wide variety of topics in a very fun way.

If you’re looking to link your maths lessons to the current Rugby World Cup (or later in the year to the Six Nations etc.) then check out the ‘Rugby Scoring’ activity on the excellent EdRugby site from the Australian Rugby Union. There are also activities for other subject areas including a great one on rugby writing and also lessons based around rugby kits.
Prime Number Posters September 7, 2007

I thought I’d give Adrian Bruce’s excellent website another mention here as he’s just put up a nice little collection of prime number posters. They’ve been designed to go on his class ‘mathematics wall’ to help his students remember some of the important information about primes. Adrian is planning to produce more posters as the year progresses so it’s worth keeping an eye on his blog.
