Part of Woodlands Junior School’s excellent Project Britain site, each spot on this pictorial calendar contains a short article about a special event, famous person or interesting fact related to the day. It’s great way to encourage interesting registration discussions and gives students ideas for topics they can research themselves.

Do your students believe that everything they read on the Internet is true? Do they simply copy from books or websites without thinking about how accurate those sources might be? See if they get caught out by the excellent ‘All About Explorers’ website that is deliberately full of inaccuracies. You’d hope that they’d see that the Christopher Columbus information is obviously fake but I imagine that the Sir Francis Drake page might cause some confusion.

The Kent NGfL site is one that I’ve always regularly used and linked to. This particular link is to their interactive games page which features some brilliant resources created by James Barrett. Formerly a teacher at Toftwood Infant School, James also created the ICT Games site I’ve mentioned in the past.
